It’s not every day the teammate you work day in and day out with gets an opportunity to perform on the same night as you in the mixed martial arts world, let alone be alongside you in the co-main event. For Huntington Beach’s LerryAn Douglas, LFA 198 is not only a chance to be the main event side to this main and co-main event combo but potentially stamp his ticket to the bright lights of the UFC.

In what is to be a unification bout for the LFA Featherweight Championship, LerryAn Douglas looks to cash in and make his record 12-5 as he takes on the Lone Star State’s Elijah Johns in what could be a matchup that UFC matchmakers are watching closely come Dec. 6.

“I think he’s a good fighter, he’s a great fighter and he’s on my way, I’ve got to beat him up,” Douglas began. “I’m excited for the fight. He’s a great fighter and I’m a great fighter too, so I’m hoping we’re gonna bring a great fight for the fans.”

This isn’t Douglas’s first exposure to the bright lights of the top of the sport. With head coach Cub Swanson being over a 20-fight (and counting) veteran in the UFC and roommate Cris Cyborg being considered an all-time great in combat sports, Douglas has stated the influence has not only guided him in the cage, but shown him how to go down the path the right way.

“You’ve got to be honest with yourself. Which is hard, you know?, he pondered. “To look yourself in the mirror and be like, man, I’m not ready. I got to get better…The problem is that that’s a lot of people they win fights, they get like, you know, some like three, four wins and they’re like, I’m ready for the UFC or something like that. And then they got to the UFC, right? They get the opportunity and they just got beat up there in the UFC and get kicked out. That’s not what I want, you know? I want to be there and stay and be one of the top fighters there. So I need to build and be ready to that moment.”
