Daniel Dubois to Announce Himself to American Audience

Daniel Dubois is set to announce himself to the American audience on the undercard of Jake Paul vs. Tyron Woodley. The heavyweight star is ranked #1 with the WBA and will be looking to make a statement and let the American audience know that he is very much the future of the heavyweight division in his first fight across the pond.

‘Dynamite’ Daniel Dubois

Daniel Dubois is just 23 years old and is currently the WBA interim heavyweight champion. Although he has suffered a loss, he didn’t take too much of a step backwards and bounced back with a brutal second-round knockout of Bogdan Dinu last time out.

Dubois had smashed (literally) his way to a record of 15-0 with 14 knockouts, only going the distance against veteran journeyman, Kevin Johnson. His lone loss came at the hands of fellow Brit, Joe Joyce. In a behind closed doors headliner, Dubois was a big favourite heading into the bout, however, what played out proved that the bookies aren’t always right.

Joe Joyce jabbed his way to a 10th round TKO, forcing Dubois to take a knee and not meet the count. It was revealed after the fight that ‘Dynamite’ had suffered two breaks to his left eye – medial and orbital floor fractures – as well as retinal bleeding. In what could have been a career-threatening injury, Dubois was lucky to have avoided anything major. Since the Joyce loss, Daniel Dubois has had two different trainers, settling with Shane McGuigan for his victory over Dinu.

Dubois will take on Joe Cusumano on the Paul/Woodley undercard. The American is 19-3 in his professional career with 17 knockouts. His last victory came in November 2020 where he won via knockout in round six.

The Heavyweight Division

The state of boxing’s heavyweight division is very much up in the air. We thought for months that we were getting a fight for the undisputed heavyweight championship of the world, with all four belts on the line between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury, however, this never came to fruition. Instead, we will be getting Fury vs. Deontay Wilder three in October having been postponed due to a positive COVID-19 test for Fury.

We will also be getting Anthony Joshua vs. Oleksandr Usyk for all of Joshua’s belts. The undefeated former undisputed cruiserweight champion, Usyk hasn’t looked like a world-beater at heavyweight but still has the skills to beat anyone on his day.

Joe Joyce has recently just finished the wiley Carlos Takam inside six rounds and is highly ranked with the WBO and WBC. A Joseph Parker or Michael Hunter fight makes sense next for the Olympic silver medalist.

Names such as Dillian WhyteAndy Ruiz and Luis Ortiz are all top names without fights booked as of yet but should make a return in 2021 at some point.

Names on the brink of a big fight include Joseph Parker, Oscar RivasFilip Hrgovic and somehow, Charles Martin are all names that could find themselves one fight away from a shot at one of the belts.

Keep it locked to MMASucka for the Jake Paul vs. Tyron Woodley fight week as we have boots on the ground at the event, which is guaranteed to be a banger!
