Former UFC title challengers Diego ‘The Nightmare’ Sanchez and ‘The Motown Phenom’ Kevin Lee will each be making their first bouts since leaving the UFC.

Lee (18-7) who signed onto the promotion back in December after being released by the UFC just a month prior to that is looking to get a win after spending 18 fights in seven years for the UFC.

Lee, now 29, competed at one point for the UFC interim lightweight title in October of 2017 against a surging Tony Ferguson at UFC 216.

Lee lost the bout via a third round submission to Ferguson, snapping a five fight win streak. From there Lee would go on to lose five of his next seven bouts.

His last bright spot in the UFC would come in November 2019 when he defeated Gregor Gillespie in a career highlight knockout from Lee at UFC 244.

Diego Sanchez (30-13), is one of the two season one winners of “The Ultimate Fighter.” A true veteran of the game, Sanchez, 40 years old, fought for the UFC for 15 years before being released from the company in May 2021.

Personal issues arising with his then coach and manager Joshua Fabia and the UFC officials would be the catalyst for Sanchez departure.

‘The Nightmare’ competed for UFC gold in 2009, in a losing effort to B.J. Penn at UFC 107 via stoppage in the fifth round.

His last bout came in September 2020 in a losing effort to Jake Matthews via unanimous decision at UFC 253.

Now at a fresh start for both men, they look to become the first title holder at an inaugural weight class of 165 lbs for the promotion.

Both men have gone up and down in weight classes as Lee competed at both lightweight and welterweight in the UFC, having a hard time in both weight classes being a ‘tweener’ of sorts.

165 lbs is the perfect weight for him as he looks to make history becoming the first ever title holder in this weight class.

Diego Sanchez meanwhile is fighting for legacy, having parted ways with Fabia, and for the first time in a decade and a half, competing outside of the promotion he pioneered for.

Sanchez himself is happy with the weight as well, known for having fought at featherweight, lightweight, welterweight and middleweight. Winning at 165 lbs would be another feather on the cap of Sanchez.
