Fury Pro Grappling, a grappling promotion from the people behind Cage Fury Fighting Championships (CFFC) returns today for Fury Pro Grappling 6. The event will emanate from the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the old ECW Arena.
The show will be main evented by a women’s super fight at 135 as UFC flyweight Gillian Robertson takes on former UFC strawweight champion Rose Namajunas at 135 pounds. The co-main event will also pit UFC fighters against each other in a grappling setting as UFC featherweight riser Chase Hooper battles UFC Hall of Famer Clay Guida at 175 pounds.

Robertson has made a name for herself in the UFC as a fan favorite who is among the all-time most efficient finishers in women’s MMA. After her submission win over Mariya Agapova at UFC Fight Night 210, Robertson moved to be the third-winningest fighter in UFC flyweight history and her six submission victories are the most in company history. Robertson should be at a rare size advantage when she takes on Namajunas, a fighter more known for her slick striking than her grappling.
Nevertheless, “Thug Rose” does have three submission victories on her UFC record, all of which have come by way of rear naked choke. Namajunas was actually scheduled to compete against name women’s grappler Danielle Kelly at a Fury Pro Grappling event on this very day last year, but was forced out at the last minute due to a positive Covid-19 test. She was replaced by former and future MMA opponent Carla Esparza.
In the co-main event, Guida will put his wrestling-focused style of grappling to the test against the unorthodox Hooper. Guida competed on the same event last year and donning the wrestling singlet fought to a draw against another UFC featherweight in Alex Caceres. However, “The Carpenter’s” top-heavy style failed him against Claudio Puelles earlier this year, when he got caught in a kneebar from the Peruvian standout at UFC Fight Night: Lemos vs. Andrade.
Notable pairings between UFC fighters are littered throughout the main card of Friday’s event. UFC middleweights Joe Pyfer and Eryk Anders will square off on the mat in the third fight from the top of the card, and Andre Petroski will meet Ovince St. Preux at 225 pounds in one of the evening’s most intriguing matchups. Elsewhere on the card, recent UFC featherweight victory Caceres meets Pat Sabatini at 170 pounds and UFC welterweights Trevin Giles and Mike Malott are also scheduled to compete head-to-head. Pat Barry, a former UFC fan favorite and the husband of Namajunas will return to a combat sports competition setting for the first time in eight years when he meets Jon Pellott. UFC welterweight Phil Rowe, who has roots in the tri-state area, will take on 3-1 CFFC fighter Nick Galanti at 190 pounds.
All main card matches are scheduled for an eight-minute time limit with the exception of the main event, which is scheduled for 10 minutes. Heel hooks and twisting leg locks are prohibited in all matches that feature fighters under UFC contract.
