Takeru Segawa to fight Bailey Sugden in Paris on June 24 in MTGP

The next fight for Takeru Segawa has been confirmed. The former three-division K-1 Kickboxing World Champion will face UK-born Bailey Sugden on June 24 in Paris, France on June 24.

Takeru Segawa vs Bailey Sugden – “Impact in Paris”

It was announced through a press conference on March 29 in Tokyo, Japan that Takeru Segawa and Bailey Sugden will meet on June 24. It will be a five-round match with the ISKA World Title on the line in the organization MTGP. This appears to be a one-off match in MTGP.

The event has been officially dubbed “Impact in Paris” and will be hosted at the Zenith Arena, which has a capacity of 8,000 people. The kickboxing fight card will be streamed on ABEMA TV in Japan in will take place in Japanese primetime. It has not been confirmed if the event will be distributed outside of Japan yet.

ABEMA TV will be paying for exclusive rights for Takeru Segawa’s kickboxing matches. The Japanese-born star will be paid 100 million yen per match, which is approximately $750,000 USD, plus a cut of the PPV sales.

After Takeru Segawa’s blockbuster kickboxing match against Tenshin Nasukawa, Takeru vacated his K-1 World Titles and declared that he wanted to fight all around the globe. The first match of this tour will be on June 24 in Paris against Bailey Sugden for an ISKA World Title.

On Twitter, Takeru said:

“Return match at “Impact in Paris” in Paris on June 24th (Sat) The ISKA 61kg world title match has been decided! The opponent is Bailey Sugden, a champion who is one class higher. The first step to challenge the world. I will definitely win and show the world the strength of the Japanese martial arts world. It will be broadcast live exclusively on Abema, so please support us.

On Bailey Sugden, Gonkaku writes:

“The opponent is ISKA K-1 rule world super lightweight (-63.5kg) champion Bailey Sugden (UK). He was scheduled to come to Japan for K-1 in September 2022, but was unable to attend due to an injury. In 2017, he also participated in GLORY. Won ISKA’s world title in March 2022 and made his first successful defense in March 2023. His record is 15 wins (3 KO), 6 losses and 1 NC.”
