UFC 288 and ONE Fight Night 10 Breakdown

After a fantastic weekend of combat sports action, UFC 288 and ONE Fight Night 10 are now in the rearview. Both provided plenty of talking points and discussion points and the MMASucka podcast crew are back to dissect all the key goings-on and give a breakdown of the most significant moments.

UFC 288

UFC 288 went down from New Jersey and in the main event, the bantamweight champion, Aljamain Sterling defended his belt against the returning Henry Cejudo. In what was a highly competitive fight, the defending champion was able to narrowly outpoint his opponent to a split decision victory.

It appeared that the wrestling of Sterling surprised Cejudo somewhat, who was taken down four times, the most in his UFC career to date. Sterling was able to negate the game of Cejudo, utilised effective footwork and set up a future fight with Sean O’Malley next.

The co-main event saw Belal Muhammad dominate Gilbert Burns, all but booking himself as the next contender for the welterweight strap. Muhammad’s stand-up game looked tricky for Burns to figure out and he was able to overwhelm Burns’ thought process and ultimately piece him up on the feet.

Talking about piecing an opponent up on the feet, strawweight star, Yan Xiaonan scored a phenomenal counter-punch knockout over former champion, Jessica Andrade. Xiaonan potentially punched her ticket for a shot at champion, Zhang Weili, which could take place in China and be a huge fight.

One Fight Night 10

ONE Fight Night 10 was the promotion’s US debut and it certainly delivered. Demetrious Johnson closed out his trilogy with Adriano Morales with a unanimous decision victory in the main event. After sharing a win each, Johnson proved that he was the better man.

Rodtang did Rodtang things, brutally knocking his opponent out with a counter elbow in classic style.

Stamp Fairtex continued her winning run with a brutal body kick finish over the highly regarded grappling star, Alyse Anderson.
