David Benavidez vs. Demetrius Andrade Preview

A career boosting bout between two undefeated fighters in the Super Middleweight division takes place November 25th, live at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada as David Benavidez takes on Demetrius Andrade in what is Showtimes final airing of boxing.

The WBC interim 168 lbs belt is on the line, and to add to the stakes, an opportunity to face boxing’s biggest star in Canelo Alvarez to determine the Super Middleweight supremacy.

Andrade, 36, is a former two-division champion and one of the most avoided fighters in today’s game. A career spanning 16 years with a record of 32 wins and no defeats, will finally get the biggest fight of his career at 36 years of age. ‘Boo Boo’ began his career at 154 lbs before going to 160 lbs and finally settling at 168 lbs.

Andrade is best known for his awkward style of crouching which includes good timing and respectable power. However, his area to be desired is his activity as Andrade has only fought once in the last two years when he defeated Demond Nicholson. Aside from that, his most notable wins are against Jason Quigley and Liam Williams and though he looked impressive against said fighters, it’s fair to assess none of them are on the level David Benavidez.

Speaking of which, Benavidez, 25, has been the more active fighter with his last win coming against a battle-ready Caleb Plant, where he threw an astonishing average of 66 punches per round which is well above the Super Middleweight average.

At 27-0, with good cardio, Benavidez has shown that he can carry that crazy pace well into the championship rounds, add to the fact he has good hand speed and highlight reel combinations, that overwhelm opponents, stand true to his monicker of ‘The Mexican Monster’, the question is, with a style of pressing forward constantly can Andrade take advantage with his timing skills to finish Benavidez, who has been susceptible to canvas tasting shots, and take home the upset?
