UFC 228 Conference Call Recap

UFC 228 is set to take place on Saturday, September 9, 2018 from the American Airlines Arena in Dallas, Texas. The main event is a welterweight title showdown between Tyron Woodley and number two ranked Darren Till. The co-main event features the first title defense of women’s flyweight champion, Nicco Montano. She will take on the massively favored Valentina Shevchenko.

UFC 228 Conference Call

The conference call started with the co-main event’s Montano and Shevchenko. Many of the questions for Montano were geared toward her underdog status, which received very short answers. Montano used her stage to talk about the hard times of the Navajo people, of which she is a member.

Shevchenko, on the other hand, sounded very relaxed headed into the bout. She even stated at one point that despite being the huge favorite, the pressure is on Montano as the champion. Shevchenko spoke of her great training camp and how this is somewhat a home field fight for her, living in Texas the last two and a half years.

The Main Eventers

The second portion of the phone conference featured the main eventers, Tyron Woodley and Darren Till. Of course Till faced many questions about his weight cut and his misinterpreted statement about “not caring” about his family. Till sounded very composed and in a good place mentally. As far as his weight, Till stated he plans to not go into fight week carrying so much weight so it will be easier to cut off at the end.

Woodley spoke of how he is used to being the shorter fighter but feels size wise, it will not be any different than most of his foes. Though some questions were about Colby Covington and the interim title match, Woodley was quick to shift the focus back on his matchup with Till.
