Mohegan Tribe Department of Athletic Regulations Statement

In a statement given to the MMA Report, Mohegan Tribe Department of Athletic Regulations Director, Association of Boxing Commissions and Combative Sports President Mike Mazzulli detailed the terms of the suspension. Mazulli explained that the Mohegan Tribe Department of Regulations holds the authority to conduct out-of-competition drug tests on athletes.

“The Mohegan Tribe Department of Athletic Regulations number one priority is the health and safety of the fighters and fighters scheduled to appear on the Bellator show on October 12 are subject to out-of-competition drug testing. I recently requested an out-of-competition drug test from Mr. Tugman and the result came back positive for a steroid. Mr. Tugman has been suspended for 365 days and fined 1,200.  He will be required to provide the department a negative test after the fine and suspension has been concluded. All combatants fighting at the Mohegan sun are subject to random testing. Again fighter safety is very important.”

No steroid was specified in the statement.

Recent Competition and Bellator Career

Before the report, Bellator 207 was his 9th appearance for Bellator. He last fought in the Bellator cage when he took on A.J. McKee at Bellator 182. At the event, McKee defeated Tugman by unanimous decision. The loss left his record with the organization at 5-3.

More recently, Blair Tugman competed at CES 51 at Twin River Casino. His positive out-of-competition sample comes a little more than a month from CES 51.

With Tugman ineligible for competition, ‘Slippery’ Peter Barrett has no opponent for next months Bellator 207.
