‘Cobrinha’ to be Inducted into ADCC Hall of Fame

Rubens Charles Maciel, better known under his nickname ‘Cobrinha’ is the next inductee in the ADCC Hall of Fame. A medalist in every major BJJ and grappling competition, Maciel is best known for his discipline, as for most of his life he dedicated himself to training two times a day, seven days a week.

The three-time ADCC champion in the 66 kg division, he began his championship reign in 2013 by defeating Rafael Mendes after a 40 minute long, gruelling match. He also was triumphant in 2015 and 2017, what would be the last grappling competition of his career.  He won his third ADCC championship by defeating both Paulo Miyao and AJ Azgarm in the process.

Outside of ADCC competition circuit ‘Corbinha’ stacked up an impressive amount of medals and championships. He is two times European Jiu-Jitsu champion, Pan American No-Gi champion, 5 times Pan American Jiu-Jitsu champion, 4 times No Gi champion, and five times World BJJ champion.

Maciel runs his own school, Cobrinha BJJ in California, but before that, he was an instructor in Alliance BJJ. He trained former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum and two IBJJF world champions, Michael Langhi and Serio Moraes amongst many others.
