Exhibition Boxing Event Featuring Floyd Mayweather and Anderson Silva Cancelled

An exhibition boxing event, slated to take place this Saturday in Dubai and featuring boxing and MMA royalty in Floyd Mayweather and Anderson Silva respectively, has been canceled, following the announcement of the death of UAE president Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The main event was set to see the undefeated Mayweather, who has been keeping a busy exhibition schedule in the last few years, take on Don Moore, who also boasts an undefeated record. Following the aforementioned death of the president, the United Arab Emirates has instituted a three-day suspension of work across both private and public sectors.

Silva, on the other hand, was looking to follow up his emphatic knockout of fellow former UFC champion Tito Ortiz in a boxing bout against Bruno Machado, a 13-9 MMA fighter also from Brazil. While hardly the most compelling matchup from Silva, this cancellation pumps the breaks on progress toward the more high-profile boxing bout with Jake Paul, to which Silva’s name has become attached in recent months.

Without official confirmation, there is no way to know when, or if, this card shall be reassembled and commence in the future. However, a report from TMZ alleges that the card could see the light of day as early as next week, by which point the suspension of work order will have lifted.
