After Tyson Fury earned a sixth-round knockout victory over Dillian Whyte, he announced his retirement and sang to the audience of 94,000 fans packed into Wembley Stadium. And then after that, he stood in the ring next to the UFC Heavyweight Champion Francis Ngannou and called for a fight against the Cameroonian-born fighter.
Regarding a potential fight against UFC Champion Francis Ngannou, Tyson Fury explained:
“I’m the boxing heavyweight champion, [he’s the] UFC heavyweight champion. He’s in great shape… However he wants — in a cage, in a boxing ring, boxing gloves, UFC gloves, we can make it happen. I think everyone wants to see it. He’s a monster of a guy. I’m a monster of a guy. So it will be a clash of the titans for sure.”
While standing right next to Tyson Fury, Francis Ngannou said:
“I want to find out who is the baddest motherf*cker on the planet… Fight with different kind of rules. Maybe MMA gloves in the ring. Kind of mix it up, a little different.”
The two heavyweight combat sports champions have agreed to a fight. What this fight is though remains to be seen. Whether boxing with MMA gloves, or MMA rules, or a changing ruleset each round, no one knows. Right now this is all talk. Ngannou is recovering from knee surgery and is unlikely to take a fight any time soon. Plus, he is still negotiating his contract with the UFC and is a reigning champion.

However, regardless of the rules, Ngannou has opened as a heavy betting underdog against the English-born boxing champion. Chamatkar Sandhu of BT Sport reported on Twitter:

Tyson Fury has been on a major win streak with a record of 32-0-1 plus he holds heavyweight boxing titles such as the WBC and The Ring championships. He’s defeated great boxers such as Wladimir Klitschko, Deontay Wilder, Dillian Whyte, among others. Fury has also spent some time training MMA with fighters such as Nick Diaz and Darren Till.
Of Ngannou’s 12 UFC victories, 11 of them have come by way of stoppage. In 2021 he knocked out then-champion Stipe Miocic to earn the UFC heavyweight title. In his next bout faced the French-born Interim champion Ciryl Gane. He won this fight via decision and along the way the UFC the Ngannou made it public they were struggling in contract negotiations. When Ngannou was announced as the winner UFC President Dana White was not present to put the belt on him. Since this time Ngannou has been in for knee surgery and neither party has made comment on the negotiations.
Tyson Fury versus Francis Ngannou may happen, but no one knows under that rules, gloves, or fight surface shape.
