Kevin Lee is back: “My love for the game is back”

Kevin Lee is back training MMA after a double knee surgery.

Lee (18-6) recently posted a photo on his Instagram showing himself in a training session and claimed that his “love for the game is back“. Seems like Lee is motivated and ready to go after spending a lengthy hiatus away from the sport.

First week back on the mats since double knee surgery“, Lee wrote on his social media. “Almost forgot how happy being punched and kicked can make you. My love for the game is back.”

Kevin Lee – Recent Performances

“The Motown Phenom” lost his last bout against Charles Oliviera by Round 3 guillotine submission back in March 2020 in which he and Oliviera were the main event at UFC Brasilia. It was the first UFC event to have no crowd due to the COVID-19 pandemic which made for an eerie atmosphere.

After his loss to Oliviera, Lee cut a very disheartened figure in his post-match interview in which he said, “probably be a good [few years] before y’all see me again.” However, the Michigan native seems re-energized and in a positive mindset after re-finding the love for the sport which he briefly lost.

Lee holds impressive wins over elite lightweight fighters such as Gregor Gillespie, Michael Chiesa, and Edson Barboza. Despite the setback in recent years where he has gone 1-3 in his last 4 bouts, Lee is still considered a top lightweight fighter. He came close to winning an interim UFC lightweight belt in which he fell short in a bout against Tony Ferguson in October 2017 after racking up a 9-1 record in his 10 fights prior to the championship fight.

People often forget how young Lee is in this sport. Still, at only 28 years old and considered a veteran by his peers having already competed in 17 UFC fights, Lee has all the time in the world to develop his ever-growing skillset in MMA. Hopefully, we will see Lee back in the octagon in 2021 and re-join the shark tank that is the UFC lightweight division.
