After much time arguing and name calling, Mark Hunt was finally cleared to fight earlier this month. After being pulled from Fight Night 121 against Marcin Tybura due to concerns over brain trauma, Hunt is finally at home fighting again, this time in Perth.

This time, instead of Fabricio Werdum, Hunt will throw hands with 9-1 Curtis Blaydes. Blaydes’ only loss came to Francis N’Gannou last year and is ranked #9 in the UFC’s heavyweight rankings. Hunt is currently ranked #5.

“The Super Samoan” still wanted his match against Werdum, but Hunt is claiming Werdum denied the fight.

Fabricio Werdum is a coward. Chicken shit. And I think it’s got to the stage where the UFC should just tell him he has to fight me. Either that, or he loses his ranking. Because you can’t sit around trying to protect your place in the division. That’s not how things work. Fabricio needs to either stand up or move the f*** aside. That’s it.

Mark Hunt is most certainly looking for revenge against Werdum who knocked him out with a knee in the second round. That fight was for the interim heavyweight title, which eventually led to Werdum fighting, and beating Cain Velasquez for the undisputed title. A win over Werdum would be one step away from fighting for the title for the heavyweight division.

Hunt is no stranger to drama. After threatening to sue Brock Lesnar and the UFC over Lesnar’s failed drug test at UFC 200, Hunt went on a bizarre rant stating that he sees himself with early signs of brain trauma from fighting all these years. The rant got him pulled from the Fight Night card with Tybura.

Mark Hunt joins fellow islander, Robert Whittaker on UFC 221. Whittaker was just crowned undisputed middleweight champion after Georges St-Pierre vacated the belt after coming down with colitis and unable to defend. Whittaker takes on former champ, Luke Rockhold in Perth, Australia.
