Middleweight Prospect Ty Gwerder Signs With Bellator MMA

Middleweight prospect Ty Gwerder announced on his Instagram that he has officially signed a multi-fight deal with Bellator MMA.

Gwerder made his professional debut at Fight Club OC 54 on October 11th, 2018. Following that he signed with LFA where he had 3 fights. Sitting with a 4-0 record with all 4 wins coming via first-round knockout it was only a matter of time before a big promotion came knocking on the door.

Ty Gwerder signs with Bellator MMA

Originally from Hawaii, Gwerder started training MMA with UFC vet and family friend Brad Tavares to stay in shape for football. He moved to Las Vegas to play college football but when he realized he wasn’t going to have a professional football career he went full time into MMA out of Xtreme Couture. Training out of XCMMA in Vegas has been a huge benefit for Gwerder’s career, not only because of the fighters he trains with but also because of the coaching he receives. Eric Nicksick and Ray Sefo are Gwerder’s main coaches but you can also find him on the mats at 10th Planet Las Vegas learning from Casey Halstead.

I had the opportunity to talk with Ty back in August, I asked him about his motivation and what drives him to make it to the next level.

“My family, I figure I owe it to myself to chase something. I always wake up every morning and the first thing I tell myself is you either want it or you don’t.”
“It’s not about fame, it’s not about being all over tv. I just want to make a name for myself.”

After fighting at LFA 75 on September 6th, it is unclear when Gwerder will make his Bellator debut. But with the promotion set to make their return to Hawaii in early December, it could be very possible he makes his debut in his home state.
