Arman Tsarukyan believes that only prime Kamaru Usman would have been able to beat Islam Makhachev.

With the conclusion of UFC 330, Islam Makhachev now has the most successful winning streak in UFC history. After dominating the lightweight division, he has also looked unbeatable at welterweight. Following the win, there has been widespread speculation as to who can be a fitting opponent for the Dagestani next. Arman Tsarukyan had the perfect name for the same.

Arman Tsarukyan feels Kamaru Usman Would have Been Great Choice

Tsarukyan recently sat down with Ariel Helwani to discuss Makhachev's future in the UFC. After beating almost everyone in the lightweight division, the 34-year-old has now won back-to-back bouts in the welterweight division. Reflecting on naming a fitting opponent for Makhachev, the Armenian-Russian fighter stated that Kamaru Usman at his peak could have given the Dagestani a run for his money.

“Who can beat Islam Makhachev at welterweight? Maybe only prime Kamaru Usman. Morales could maybe be a problem. But still, right now, who can beat Islam? Maybe only prime Kamaru Usman, but he's gone,” said Tsarukyan.

The UFC lightweight star might have a point. During his prime reign, Usman remained the champion for more than two years. He also defended his title six times during this time. However, Usman’s recent records seem to have dipped a bit. In his last five fights, Usman has lost four times and won once.

However, despite Tsarukyan’s strong prediction, Carlos Prates is confident about beating the welterweight champion.

Carlos Prates Sent Stern Warning to Islam Makhachev

UFC 330 saw yet another Islam Makhachev masterclass. With Ian Garry putting on a brave fight, things looked extremely difficult for the Dagestani. But the defending champion showed enough resilience and skills to edge out the Irishman via unanimous decision. But following the win, Prates had a lot to say about his potential next opponent.

The Brazilian fighter said, “I will knock you out, bro. I will knock you out. I will bring that belt to Brazil. The first welterweight champion from Brazil."

Interestingly, Makhachev, too, has stated that between Michael Morales and Prates, he would want to face the latter. Now, with the battle lines seemingly drawn, fans will be waiting for another potential banger.
