Carlos Prates had Weird Reason to Choose MMA As Profession

Carlos Prates is currently aiming for a UFC title shot in the welterweight division. Initially, his career was not supposed to be surrounded by endless hours of training and figuring out how to knock out opponents inside of an octagon. Speaking with Ariel Helwani, the Brazilian star elaborated on why he chose MMA as his career. 

Carlos Prates Didn't Want Full-Time Job

Prates detailed how in his early life, he worked at a flower shop. Responsible for delivering and bringing in flowers, ‘The Nightmare’ admitted that he never liked the job. Especially the fact that he had to work for 8 full hours to earn his living. 

Prates stated, “Oh, at first I worked at a.. like a flower store, you know? Like I did deliveries to bring the flowers and things like that— 8 hours per day, work 8 hours per day, bro. I don't like."

Thankfully, that one decision changed the course of his life. Coming into the UFC via Dana White’s Contender Series, Prates has lost only one fight till now. In his last fight, the vicious striker downed the former welterweight champion, Jack Della Maddalena, to gain some significant momentum. 

What’s Next for Carlos Prates? 

Prates has emerged as one of the biggest stars in the welterweight division. Owing to his impressive skills, the Brazilian is now in line to face Islam Makhachev for the welterweight gold next. Although nothing has been confirmed as of now, it is widely believed that ‘The Nightmare’ will be given his due opportunity to win the UFC gold. 

Interestingly, there were a couple of names cited as Makhachev’s potential opponents. While one was Prates, the other was Michael Morales. However, the defending champion himself clarified that he feels Prates was the most worthy opponent between the two.
