Ciryl Gane has Honest Confession to Make Against Cheating Claims

Ciryl Gane is now one of the biggest names in the UFC heavyweight division. With Tom Aspinall vacating the title, Gane has been crowned as the new leader of the pack. But his way to the top did not come easy. In fact, just months back, the UFC heavyweight star was shunned down with several cheating claims. In a recent statement, the 36-year-old came out honest about the same. 

The French UFC star recently appeared in a conversation with ZackNaniTV. Responding to the claims that he cheated his way out against both Aspinall and Alex Pereira, the champion explained how his Muay Thai background has a lot to do with the allegations. 

Elaborating on the incidents inside the octagon, Gane stated, “When you throw your leg, your hand follows. I come from Muay Thai, your hand always stays in front. He moves in at that moment, the first thing I have is my hand, and he comes in head first. So I open my hand and tried to do a and it slipped whilst he was moving.”

The French MMA star also pointed out how fans are not ready to listen to any explanation. Rather, they are more interested in tagging him with the ‘cheater’ label. He added, “It happens every weekend. A shot to the groin, you throw a leg kick but the guy moves. These things are trivial. We connect and then we have to finish, and the guy turns his head . It’s part of our sport.”

Ciryl Gane Takes Shot at Tom Aspinall’s Mental Toughness

Gane will be defending his heavyweight title against Josh Hokit next. But all of this started due to the Frenchman repeatedly eye-poking Aspinall. While that bout was deemed a no contest, Aspinall never really recovered. In order to treat his eyes, the former champion had to vacate the title. 

However, such an act from Aspinall doesn’t seem to sit well with Gane. Speaking to ZackNaniTV, the UFC star said, “We knew he was fragile mentally. We had guessed it, we suspected it. The guy complains a bit too much. You got poked in the eyes, you have a right to stop. If you feel pain, there’s an issue. There’s no need to do all that you did in terms of communication because it worked against you in the end.”

 

With Gane finally getting his dream fulfilled, fans will wait to see if he can defend his title against Hokit.
