Colby Covington Considering UFC Comeback After RAF Domination
Colby Covington has teased a possibility of him coming back to the UFC despite announcing retirement.
Colby Covington has always been an interesting character both on and off the octagon. After quite an eventful career, Covington announced his retirement back in May. Surprisingly, one of his recent statements suggests that the former UFC title contender might still have more left in him.
Is Colby Covington Coming Back to UFC?
Currently, there is no confirmed news about the 38-year-old making his comeback to the UFC. However, in a recent interaction with MMA Junkie, the American mixed martial artist stated that he still wants to get back to the octagon if given a chance.
Covington said, “So I don't know, maybe I come back for a fight. I wouldn't say I'm fully retired. Everybody keeps saying, 'Oh, he's retired.' You must not see what I'm doing in RAF. I'm smoking, dudes. I just beat the number one contender in lightweight and that was light work.”
The last few fights in the UFC did not bring pleasant memories for the American star. He lost back-to-back fights against Leon Edwards and Joaquin Buckley before announcing his retirement. But now, trying his luck in RAF, Covington is gaining some significant momentum following his win against Arman Tsarukyan.
Colby Covington Details Why he Left UFC
Covington was eager to fight at the UFC Freedom 250 event in the White House. Once the card was finalized and he didn't find his name, the 38-year-old decided to quit. Citing the reasons that influenced his decision, the former UFC star said that he was never allotted good matchups.
The 38-year-old said, “I wasn't getting any fights in the UFC. They weren't really offering me the fights that I want. I didn't get on the White House card. I really wanted to be on the White House card; I would have done anything to be on that card and would have fought anybody. I would have fought a heavyweight. It didn't matter. I just wanted to compete there in front of the greatest president of all time, Donald Trump, but it never transpired.”
