“I Beat All His Records” - Islam Makhachev Takes Hilarious Jab at Daniel Cormier

Nobody is safe from the sharp tongue of Islam Makhachev, especially not Daniel Cormier.

The reigning UFC pound-for-pound king has never hesitated to keep his longtime training partner humble. Over the past few weeks, their running comedic saga reached new heights. Makhachev first put Cormier on blast during an impromptu attendance audit ahead of UFC 330, calling out the former two-division champion for barely stepping foot inside the American Kickboxing Academy mats in San Jose.

When Cormier attempted to use head coach Javier Mendez as an alibi, Makhachev instantly shut it down, noting Mendez had not been in California for nearly a year.

The jabs did not stop there. Makhachev also roasted "DC" over his recurring pledge to send his teenage son to train in the mountains of the North Caucasus.

Cormier claimed his 15-year-old boy was doing great without the legendary "2-3 years Dagestan" treatment, prompting Makhachev to ask why the kid has yet to compete in a real tournament. When Cormier promised his son would finally travel next season,  Makhachev delivered a classic zinger: "When are you gonna send him, when he's retired?"

During a recent media appearance following his grueling title defense against Ian Machado Garry at UFC 330, Makhachev delivered his funniest punchline yet. Asked about stacking his mixed martial arts résumé against Cormier’s Hall of Fame career, Makhachev did not hold back.

"DC don't have any records more than me," Makhachev deadpanned. "I beat all his records. But one thing I cannot beat, I can not be like him fat. That's it."

Backing Up the Trash Talk

While the comment brought plenty of laughs, Makhachev’s championship credentials speak for themselves.

Boasting an active 17-fight win streak, Makhachev has turned the UFC record books upside down. After dominating the lightweight division with four title defenses over Charles Oliveira, Alexander Volkanovski, and Dustin Poirier, he jumped up to welterweight. While Makhachev recently admitted he received a wake-up call against Machado Garry and still needs to pack on clean mass to fully fill out 170 pounds, he now shares double-champ status with Cormier.

Cormier built a legendary 22-3 pro career capturing light heavyweight and heavyweight gold, but he remains the favorite target of Dagestani humor. As Makhachev continues to cement his legacy as an all-time great, Cormier will just have to stomach the jokes.
