Israel Adesanya Praises Demetrious Johnson For Choosing Family Over Another Dagestan Camp

Demetrious Johnson is one of the most well-known figures in the creation of mixed martial arts material. In the recent chat, Adesanya asked Johnson if he had considered traveling to Dagestan; the former flyweight champion said that he truly wanted to. But he considers it a big commitment, particularly given that he has a wife and family. He asks why he would still pursue this after making a joke about having worked hard, fought, and earned money all of his life.

Izzy was quite impressed by this and advised young people to take it seriously. He believes that one shouldn't spend their entire life pursuing their next objective. One should take a moment to appreciate what they have worked so hard to attain.

“You’re passing on some OG, some wisdom for us that need it. Yeah, again, gets to the point. Not just me, I think a lot of young men and people need it just to know, like, on the wheel to keep going, keep going, like, to what end? When you get to enjoy it, when do you actually get to enjoy the fruits of your labor?” Izzy said.

As of this now, it appears like DJ will not be visiting Dagestan anytime soon. It would be fascinating to see inside Khabib's team, though, if he were to visit. And since he is a UFC legend, it will be big for them as well.

When Did Demetrious Johnson Take Retirement?

On September 6, 2024, at ONE 168 in Denver, Colorado, Johnson (33-4-1) announced his retirement from mixed martial arts competition. Throughout his career, he has accomplished everything from taking home the title in 2012 to setting the record with 11 consecutive UFC title defenses. Additionally, he won the ONE Flyweight World Title and the ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix when he attended One Championship.
