Jordan Burroughs calls out UFC icon Georges St-Pierre for RAF wrestling match, talks potential date and venue
Wrestling great Jordan Burroughs has challenged MMA and UFC icon Georges St-Pierre to a showdown in the RAF.
Georges St-Pierre hasn't competed in a professional combat sports contest since his final MMA fight back in 2017.
Nevertheless, he's now been issued a notable call-out from fellow martial arts legend, the 2012 freestyle wrestling Olympic gold medalist (in the 74 kg category) Jordan Burroughs. The grappling savant intends to face "GSP" in a freestyle wrestling match in the Real American Freestyle (RAF) wrestling organization.

In a conversation with Ariel Helwani on The Ariel Helwani Show, Jordan Burroughs addressed his recent win over UFC welterweight contender Sean Brady in their freestyle wrestling match. Burroughs defeated Brady by way of technical fall, with an 11-0 margin, in the second period of their catchweight match at RAF 12 on August 22.
Speaking to Helwani, Burroughs listed names such as reigning UFC welterweight titlist Islam Makhachev, UFC lightweight contender and RAF staple Arman Tsarukyan, and former interim UFC welterweight champ and inaugural RAF cruiserweight crossover champion Colby Covington, among others, as potential next opponents for him in the RAF.
In response to Helwani bringing up MMA great Georges St-Pierre as a possible opponent for him, Burroughs issued a call-out to the Canadian icon. The American stated:
"Yeah, Georges, if you're out there, I would love to compete against you. I'd love to wrestle you. I honor you. I honor your legacy. And I don't wanna embarrass you. I don't wanna humiliate you. I just would love to share the stage with you. And so, he's number-one. He's at the very top of my list (of potential opponents). But he's a guy that I'm not really sure we can get."
Intriguingly, Burroughs indicated that he and St-Pierre could wrestle one another at RAF 14. The Arman Tsarukyan vs. Dillon Danis match, for the inaugural RAF middleweight crossover title, will headline RAF 14 in Las Vegas on October 3. He asserted:
"'GSP' -- Georges, if you're out there and are watching this show, make it happen. Las Vegas, October 3rd."
The 38-year-old further implied that St-Pierre would have around six to eight weeks to prepare for it, and could assess how he feels at the six-week mark and withdraw if he doesn't feel his competing would be feasible.
He even expressed his willingness to wrestle against St-Pierre in the latter's native Canada, be it in Montreal or Toronto. Burroughs hailed the 45-year-old and noted, "He is in my GOAT (list) -- one of the greatest combat sports athletes of all time."

Georges St-Pierre's recent combat sports happenings; Jordan Burroughs's next match at RAF Moscow
Georges St-Pierre's latest combat sports contest as a professional athlete witnessed him submit Michael Bisping to capture the UFC middleweight championship at UFC 217 back in November of 2017. The former UFC welterweight champ had stepped away from MMA competition in 2013, and his return in 2017 proved to be a one-off fight because he subsequently vacated the middleweight belt due to health issues.
"Rush" officially retired from mixed martial arts in 2019, which was followed by his induction into the Modern Wing of the UFC Hall of Fame in 2020.
He was linked to a potential boxing match against legendary pugilist Oscar De La Hoya in 2021. Regardless, both he and De La Hoya signaled that UFC head honcho Dana White disallowed St-Pierre, who was a contracted UFC athlete, from competing in it. Also, St-Pierre's return to submission grappling, in a proposed match against archrival Nick Diaz at a UFC Fight Pass Invitational event in 2023, was scrapped because both athletes sustained injuries.
As for Jordan Burroughs, during his interview with Helwani, he affirmed that he's closed the door on the possibility of an MMA career. The extraordinary wrestler is scheduled to take on Russia's Magomed Kurbanaliev in a middleweight match at RAF Moscow on September 5.
