Khamzat Chimaev Shows Champion’s Mentality After Loss to Sean Strickland

When Khamzat Chimaev won the UFC middleweight title, many touted him to remain as the champion for a long time. Unfortunately, in his very first title defense, ‘Borz’ failed to get over Sean Strickland. Despite putting on a valiant showing, Chimaev lost via judges’ decision. But the setback could not bring his morale down as the Chechen-born is still hungry for more. 

Khamzat Chimaev Refuses to Call Him a ‘Loser’

Coming into the championship bout, Chimaev was the favorite. But things took a surprising turn when ‘Tarzan’ impressed everyone by taking back his belt. Such a loss was surely a brutal blow to Chimaev’s confidence. Incidentally, this was also the first time the 32-year-old lost a bout in the UFC. 

Speaking with Ushatayka recently, ‘Borz’ pointed out how he has not given up. He said, “I don't consider myself a loser. When you don't give up, you don't lose. l've been training every day since I was five years old. I provide for my family, and I'm happy to earn money—whether it's by beating someone up or taking someone down."

Chimaev also doubled down on his wish to fight Strickland again. Showing his keen intent, ‘Borz’ said, “Even tomorrow. I'm waiting. I'm waiting for it even more than you are."

Currently, a rematch is not confirmed. But as rumors about Nassourdine Imavov fighting Strickland surfaced, ‘Borz’ reacted in a positive manner. 

Khamzat Chimaev Feels Nassourdine Imavov Title Shot is Legit

Imavov came to prominence following his win against Israel Adesanya. Next up, he went on to beat Caio Borralho. Having lost only two fights so far, there are talks about the 30-year-old star getting a shot at the middleweight gold. Now, if this news is true, it means Chimaev’s rematch will be delayed. 

Reacting to the same, the former UFC champion praised Imavov and pointed out, “There's no surprise. How long has Imavov been waiting now? He's already the contender. Whoever wins, we'll take him."

There is no confirmation about who Strickland will face next. Going by Chimaev’s body language, there’s no telling that he looks extremely focused.
