Khamzat Chimaev Teases Comeback Following Loss to Sean Strickland

At UFC 328 in May, Sean Strickland defeated Khamzat Chimaev to reclaim his title of being the middleweight champion. After Strickland managed to survive through the early wrestling tactics of Chimaev, a split-second decision helped him regain the title. Now, months after the shocking setback, the 32-year-old Russian-Emirati fighter has promised to make a comeback.

Khamzat Chimaev Promises Fans Comeback After Defeat in UFC 328

Holding a record of 15-0, Chimaev stepped into the octagon on May 10 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Facing the American champion, Chimaev had to embrace his first loss in his UFC career, taking his record to 15-1. 

Recently, the ‘Borz’ took to his Instagram account and shared a short clip in his story. In the clip, he could be spotted smiling in his UFC training gear. He captioned the post, “Will be back soon☝🏻”

During his last fight against Strickland, Chimaev took the upper hand in the opening round. He managed to wrestle and take down Strickland. While the 35-year-old fighter struggled in the first round, he made a dominant comeback in round 2 as he started to defend Chimaev and attempt more significant shots. During round 3, both fighters tried to land clean and powerful shots while staying on their feet. Despite managing to take down Strickland at the end of Round 4, the last round was slightly dominated by Strickland.

Khamzat Chimaev Stays Active at RAF While Awaiting Rematch Against Sean Strickland 

Now, while the Russian-Emirati fighter awaits his rematch against Strickland, he would reportedly keep himself active in the RAF. Following his defeat to Strickland, he made his promotional debut against Dillon Danis at RAF 10. After his win against Danis, a bout unfolded between Danis and Chimaev’s team, with punches being thrown.

RAF’s CEO Chad Bronstein has reflected on Chimaev’s fighting status and added, “(Chimaev’s) also going to have an active run. He’ll be wrestling a couple times before the end of the year.” Bronstein further added, “I’m excited about it. When he walked out the one time he showed up, it felt like the reinvented Undertaker (walkout). It’s probably one of the best walkouts I’ve seen and compliments to Eric Bischoff and James and that team when they did that, but it was just unbelievable.

The RAF boss shared how he is “personally excited” to have Chimaev again in his fight cards as he likes to watch him wrestle.
