Two of the welterweight divisions best stand-up fighters will potentially square off at the first ever UFC on Fox Sports 1 event, as Matt Brown and Thiago Alves have verbally agreed to fight.

Although the UFC officials have not announced the August 17 match-up, MMASucka.com has learned from a source close to the event.

Brown (17-11) has been on an absolute tear over the past year and is currently riding a five-fight winning streak. Most recently Brown stopped Canadian Jordan Mein by second round TKO at UFC on FOX 7. He earned “Fight of the Night” for that performance.

Alves (19-9) has not fought for over a year due to several injuries. In early 2012 “Pitbull” had surgery for a torn pectoral muscle and has not been in the Octagon since.  Alves has been on a bit of a roller coaster going 4-2 in his last six fights.

The American Top Team fighter lost his last fight to Martin Kampmann. “Pitbull” was dominating the fight until he went for a takedown and Kampmann locked in a guillotine choke late in the third round.

UFC on Fox Sports 1 is expected to take place at the TD Gardens in Boston, Mass. On August 17. No main event has been set for the Fox 1 card, however UFC President Dana White has stated that it will be the best free card on network television.
