Undefeated Kyrgyz knockout artist Akbar Abdullaev didn't just earn a spot on the roster; he made history in less time than it takes to order a coffee.
Abdullaev entered the APEX in Las Vegas carrying massive expectations. Bringing an immaculate 14-0 professional MMA record with 14 finishes, 13 coming by way of knockout, the lightweight powerhouse had already turned heads in Asia, stopping ONE Championship featherweight titleholder Tang Kai. Taking on late replacement Ednilson Santos, Abdullaev needed only 19 seconds to deliver a highlight-reel finish. A solitary, thunderous right hand caught Santos flush, shutting the lights out instantly.
High Praise from the Boss
When it came time to hand out contracts, White was virtually at a loss for words, delivering perhaps the boldest compliment in the decade-long history of the developmental show.
“Akbar, I don't even know what to say to you. That punch sounded like a baseball bat,” White told Abdullaev as he confirmed his UFC signing. “I'm gonna go out on a limb here and I'm gonna call you possibly the greatest talent that's ever been on this show in 10 years.”
White didn't stop there, adding that he expects the 5-foot-9 striker to quickly transform into a major superstar and an immediate threat inside the Octagon.
For fight fans, Abdullaev’s arrival brings nuclear single-shot power and elite dynamic striking to an already stacked 155-pound landscape. If his promotional debut was any indication, the rest of the UFC lightweight division has been officially put on notice.
