ONE: Big Bang II Recap

ONE Championship returned on Friday, December 11, with the previously recorded action of ONE: Big Bang II.

The six-bout card delivered on its namesake with some outstanding knockouts and incredible performances and was held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. The event marked the halfway point in ONE’s December campaign as they near the conclusion of 2020.

ONE: Big Bang II Recap

ONE Super Series action headlined the evening as #3-ranked flyweight Muay Thai contender Jonathan “The General” Haggerty battled Taiki “Silent Sniper” Naito.

The former World Champion edged out Naito on the scorecards to retain his spot in the rankings and push toward another chance at the gold in 2021.

The co-main event took place in the lightweight division for kickboxing. #1-ranked contender Nieky “The Natural” Holzken made it look easy against the #5-ranked Elliot “The Dragon” Compton as he scored a gorgeous liver shot knockout in the first round. A perfectly located left hook left Compton unable to regain his composure to meet the referee’s count.

Although Holzken’s knockout was a thing of beauty, it was not the best of the night. That belonged to heavyweight Rade Opacic.

In his ONE debut, Opacic scored a spinning heel kick KO over veteran Errol “The Bonecrusher” Zimmerman in their kickboxing bout.

In mixed martial arts action, Chen “The Ghost” Rui looked outstanding in his first-round TKO win over Ali Motamed. He clubbed the Iranian with heavy shots along the Circle Wall and finished with a right uppercut in under two minutes.

American Tyler McGuire outworked a game Agilan “Alligator” Thani en route to a unanimous decision victory. The win puts McGuire a step closer to getting another shot at the ONE Welterweight World Championship.

And in featherweight action, Kim “The Fighting God” Jae Woong bested Tetsuya “MMA Fantasista” Yamada with a second-round TKO.

Yamada nearly secured an armbar in the first round, but Kim’s defense proved too tough, as did his top control. From the top, Kim showed outstanding ground and pound and forced the referee to call the action due to unanswered hammerfists.
