When Dana White announced that Carlos Condit would step aside and Nick Diaz would take his place against Georges St. Pierre on Super Bowl weekend, fans and media alike wondered who Condit would now face. That question was answered at yesterday's UFC 138
Nick Diaz has become the talk of the MMA world after UFC 137. Not only for his incredible performance inside the octagon, where in a fight of the year candidate he decimated the legendary BJ Penn in a fashion that no one ever had before; but for his incendiary comments towards UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre in both his immediate post-fight interview and the following post-event press conference.
Georges St-Pierre was not too impressed with the way Nick Diaz called him out following his victory over BJ Penn at UFC 137. In fact he was down right pissed off. It was not Nick Diaz's doing alone though, Cesar Gracie called out from his corner "call that mother- f***er out!"
The circumstances leading up to UFC 137 were crazy and at times bizarre. So why should we be surprised that the event ended with a crazy announcement. At the UFC 137 Post Fight Press Conference, Dana White announced that Carlos Condit will no longer get his title fight with George St. Pierre and that Condit has agreed to step aside.
On Tuesday, October 18 it was announced that UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre will be unable to participate in his UFC 137 title bout against top contender Carlos Condit due to an injury.
Nick Diaz still gets to be in the main event but not in the fight he originally wanted to be in.
With UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St.Pierre out due to a knee injury, the Nick Diaz (25-7 MMA, 6-4 UFC) vs BJ Penn (16-7-2 MMA, 12-6-2 UFC) has now been upgraded to the main event of UFC 137.
This was not the news that the UFC was expecting nor looking for.
UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St.Pierre (22-2 MMA, 16-2 UFC) is out of next weekend's UFC 137 main event against Carlos Condit (27-5 MMA, 4-1 UFC).
We are a couple of weeks away from a highly anticipated match up between Georges St-Pierre and Carlos Condit. GSP is commonly referred to as a safe champion and fighting to win, not finish. In this fight however GSP has declared that he will be able to finish Condit.
