June 26th of this year will be a day that Charlie Brenneman will never forget. He was supposed to fight TJ Grant on the UFC on Versus 4 card in Pittsburgh and Grant had to bow out due to injury. Brenneman was without an opponent, but stayed on weight just in case a fighter pulled out. Then, the Nate Marquardt situation happened and Brenneman was back in the ballgame. The day before the card, the UFC offered Brenneman the fight with Rick Story and Brenneman jumped on it.
He went out and put on a great performance as he defeated Rick Story via unanimous decision and his life changed after that. With more people recognizing him, Brenneman(14-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) kicked his training into high gear as he faces Anthony Johnson(9-3 MMA, 6-3 UFC) tomorrow night at UFC Live On Versus 6.
Georges St-Pierre who is in most peoples books the number 2 pound for pound fighter in the world, behind of course Anderson Silva. The world wants to see that match-up and Dana White says that it is only a matter of time at this point.
It started out as a typical day for Carlos Condit until he got a certain call. "It was going a pretty normal day," said Condit. "I got up, went to the gym, was training as usual. I was having lunch, getting ready for my next training session and I got the call."
For 24 hours Nick Diaz was out of UFC 137.
Now, he is back on the card, but not with his original opponent.
UFC President Dana White announced via Twitter that Diaz (25-7, 1 NC) will be facing former UFC Lightweight and Welterweight Champion BJ Penn (16-7-2) at UFC 137 in Las Vegas.
When fighters are given the opportunity to fight for a world championship, 99.9 percent of them would do everything above and beyond to maximize the chance they were given. When you say 99.9%, who would the .1% be? That would be Nick Diaz.
Dana White had no other option than to pull Nick Diaz from his championship fight with Georges St-Pierre at UFC 137 when he decided not to show up for the press tour. His replacement was none other than Carlos Condit. The fans immediate reaction was very negative towards Nick not showing up, but from this video that Nick released yesterday you can see that they should not be judging too soon.
At todays UFC 137 Press Conference, Dana White made the announcement that Nick Diaz has lost his opportunity to fight for the welterweight championship against Georges St-Pierre at UFC 137 and will be replaced by Carlos Condit.
The long anticipated match-up between UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre and Strikeforce Welterweight Champion Nick Diaz is coming up next month, but the two will go face to face today at the UFC 137 Press Conference.
Anderson Silva was all smiles Saturday night, having dispatched Yushin Okami in highlight-reel fashion, having retained his UFC middleweight title, and having extended his records for consecutive victories and title defences in the promotion. As MMASucka columnist Trevor Dueck said, he may very well be the sport's Muhammad Ali. When Kenny Florian asked Silva who his next opponent should be, he answered with a wry smile “my clone”.
