Titan FC Adds Combat Jiu Jitsu | Re-Ups with Fight Pass

Just this week, Titan FC made headlines by announcing their first international foray into Kazakhstan. Today, the promotion is again in the spotlight. This time, one of South Florida’s premier MMA organizations announced the renewal of their streaming rights deal with UFC Fight Pass and the addition of combat jiu jitsu to the promotion.

Titan FC Staying on Fight Pass

The news was first reported by Eric Kowal of MyMMANews.

Titan FC’s CEO, Jeff Aronson, told MyMMANews, “Renewing our media rights deal with UFC Fight Pass is another step to making the vision of Titan FC being a global brand a reality.”

Notably, the report states that “Titan and the UFC will continue to work collaboratively on athlete development and mobility between Titan and UFC, including continued use of “UFC Out-Clause” in Titan FC promotional agreements.”

The “UFC Out-Clause” is of particular importance. It means that should the UFC aim to bring a Titan FC fighter on board, Titan FC will facilitate that transition. A similar deal was put in place for Russian promotion M-1 Global, among others.

Titan FC is also set to capitalize on the recent surge in popularity of combat jiu jitsu. Combat jiu jitsu, in which jiu jitsu competitors can use open-handed strikes on the ground, was brought into the mainstream by 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu founder, Eddie Bravo.

Bravo has featured combat jiu jitsu at his inaugural Combat Jiu Jitsu Worlds tournament and the Fight Pass-partnered Eddie Bravo Invitational (EBI). Other MMA promotions have hopped on board, including fellow South Florida promotion, Xtreme Fighting Nation (XFN).

Titan’s COO, Lex McMahon, told MyMMANews, “It became evident that there is tremendous energy and fan support for both combat jiu jitsu, so it only makes sense that Titan expand our expertise in combat sports and event production and promotion to include this robust and rapidly growing aspect of combat sports to our product offering.”

Per the report, all combat jiu jitsu matches under the Titan FC banner will be submission-only, but the full ruleset is still being finalized. The combat jiu jitsu rollout will begin in the first quarter of 2019.

For fans of combat sports, these developments are fantastic in nature. The inclusion of combat jiu jitsu is particularly interesting, as there is a wealth of grappling talent in South Florida, the region in which Titan FC is based.
