UFC 171: Hector Lombard beats Jake Shields by Unanimous Decision

 

The welterweight division was up next on the UFC 171 PPV, as Jake Shields squared off with Hector Lombard.

Early on Lombard used his judo and threw Shields to the ground and was also able to land a big few big punches on the feet. Shields went for numerous takedowns, which were stuffed easily by Lombard midway through the first round. Lombard was able to land a nice combo that made Shields turtle, but was able to re-guard and continue out the round.

Lombard was swinging for the fences to start the second round. When the two clinched, Lombard was able to trip the legs out from below Shields and land in side control. All of Shields’ takedowns were stuffed in the frame, while Lombard was able to land both of his.

Lombard was able to capitalize on another clinch and take Shields down. He wound up in Shields’ guard and threw numerous body shots. With fourty seconds the two stood back up and with just over ten seconds left, Shields’ locked in an arm-in guillotine, but Lombard was able to hold on.

Lombard (33-4-1 1NC) is now 3-1 inside the UFC Octagon.

Official Result: Hector Lombard def. Jake Shields via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)
