UFC 240 goes down this Saturday in Edmonton, Canada and features some very exciting bouts. Last week’s UFC on ESPN 4 betting tips were a resounding success, with three of four high odds flutters coming through. Here are some UFC 240 betting tips to help you win big once again this July.
UFC 240 Betting
1. Max Holloway (-390) vs Frankie Edgar (+320)
UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway (20-4) will defend his belt against ex UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar (23-6-1) in the main event of this weekends card. This is the third time this bout has been scheduled, with Edgar pulling out of UFC 218 and Holloway missing UFC 222, both due to injury.
Max Holloway’s phenomenal 13-fight win streak was snapped at UFC 236 by Dustin Poirier. Poirier defeated Holloway via unanimous decision in a phenomenal scrap for the interim UFC lightweight strap. Holloway is one of the greatest strikers in UFC history and he will look to cement his place as the featherweight GOAT with a win over veteran Edgar.
Frankie Edgar’s latest title shot will come as a surprise to most. Edgar was finished for the first time in his career by Brian Ortega at UFC 222. A phenomenal uppercut knocked Edgar out cold in the very first round. Since then Edgar only has one win, a unanimous decision victory over Cub Swanson.
On the feet, Max Holloway truly is the complete package. Holloway has brilliant defensive movement, possesses ferocious knockout power and applies relentless pressure on his opponent. It is hard to imagine how any featherweight could deal with Holloway’s striking, but Edgar will be hoping to do just that.
Edgar is incredibly tough and has strong wrestling. Good footwork coupled with exceptional timing on his takedowns creates a clear path to victory for Edgar. Edgar is no stranger to wars and will hope to weather Holloway’s storm, take the fight to the canvas and cause the upset.
The bottom line
Coming off a loss, Holloway will be looking to make a statement against Edgar. Edgar may be tough, but Holloway is simply phenomenal at what he does.
Betting on Holloway is a must this weekend. However, considering the poor odds on him, one must be more creative when backing the Hawaiian. Holloway will likely force a finish late in the fight or, if Edgar is resilient enough, win by decision. Perhaps decide which of these three outcomes to back by consulting which has the highest odds with your chosen gambling provider.
Tip – Holloway via 5th round finish.
2. Geoff Neal (-335) vs Niko Price (+275)
Geoff Neal (11-2) and Niko Price (13-2) face off in a fight of the night candidate between two exciting strikers.
Neal is one of the biggest prospects in the UFC welterweight division. In his last octagon appearance, Neal dismantled Belal Muhammad in an exceptional display. Riding a five-fight win streak, including four knockouts, Neal will look to establish himself as a legit contender with a win over action fighter Price.
A Niko Price fight guarantees one thing, carnage. In 15 professional fights Price has only heard the final bell once. ‘The Hybrid’ gave fans one of the wildest finishes in UFC history when he knocked out Randy Brown with brutal hammerfist strikes from his back.
Considering Price’s knack to win fights in a crazy fashion out of nowhere, he is a great underdog investment this weekend. However, if you want a more sure bet – betting on the fight to end via before the final bell is an excellent pick.
Tip 1 – Niko Price to win.
Tip 2 – Fight to end via KO/TKO.
3. Alexandre Pantoja (-125) vs Deiveson Figueiredo (+105)
Alexandre Pantoja (21-3) and Deiveson Figueiredo (15-1) meet in an all Brazilian affair with title repercussions in the flyweight division.
Figueiredo suffered the first loss of his professional career in his last fight versus fellow Brazilian Jussier Formiga. ‘Daico’ looked surprisingly unimpressive, with holes in his striking and cardio issues both being exposed. Figueiredo is still one of the most prolific knockout artists in the division, with three of his four UFC wins coming by way of TKO.
TUF alumni Alexandre Pantoja will be a tough challenge for aforementioned hard hitter. ‘The Cannibal’ has faced a higher calibre of opposition and has a nuanced skill set that should be able to pick apart Figueiredo in a similar fashion to Formiga. Pantoja has never been knocked out, so should be able to handle any flurries on the feet from his opponent.
Pantoja is also lethal on the ground, with eight wins coming by way of submission. This is undoubtedly Figueiredo’s weakest area, and Pantoja should dominate any grappling exchanges this weekend.
