UFC 246 Results

The UFC kicks off it’s new decade with UFC 246 as their biggest star. Conor McGregor, returns to the cage. McGregor will return for the first time since October 2018 at UFC 229 when he lost to UFC lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov. In his return to the cage, McGregor will face off against the owner of most wins in UFC history, Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone.

Since McGregor last fought, Cerrone has fought four times. He started off with a two fight win streak, grabbing wins over Al Iaquinta and Alexander Hernandez. But, entering UFC 246, Cerrone has lost his last two fights to Justin Gaethje and the next lightweight title challenger, Tony Ferguson. Both of those losses came by TKO as Gaethje finished him with strikes and the Ferguson fight ended in a doctor’s stoppage. For McGregor, he will be looking for his first win in the UFC since 2016, and as for ‘Cowboy’, he is looking to pick up the biggest win of his career.

The co-main event will feature a women’s bantamweight rematch between former champion, Holly Holm, and former title challenger, Raquel Pennington. These two women first met in 2015 at UFC 184 as Holm was making her UFC debut. Holm would end up winning the fight, defeating Pennington by split decision. Now nearly five years later they will run it back.

Since defeating Pennington, Holm has gone 4-5, capturing the title from Ronda Rousey before losing it to Meisha Tate. She most recently suffered a TKO loss to the champion, Amanda Nunes at UFC 239. Since the loss, Pennington has had a more successful record than Holm at 5-2. However she lost her only attempt at the title when she lost to Nunes at UFC 224 by TKO. Both women will look to pick up a big win that could put them in position for another title shot.

Kicking off the main card will be a fight in the lightweight division as former UFC lightweight champion, Anthony Pettis, takes on Diego Ferreira. Pettis enters the fight coming off a loss to Nate Diaz while Ferreira has won his last five straight.

After that will be a fight in the bantamweight division as Brian Kelleher takes on Ode Osbourne. Coming into the fight, Kelleher has lost his last two straight to John Lineker and Montel Jackson. Osbourne will be making his UFC debut after a successful showing on the Contenders Series in July. He earned his UFC contract after finishing Armando Villarreal in the first round with an armbar.

Finally, before the co-main event will be a heavyweight bout between Aleksei Oleinik and Maurice Greene. Oleinik enters the fight off two straight KO/TKO losses but holds recent submission finishes over Mark Hunt and Junior Albini. As for Greene, he won two of three fights in 2019 with his most recent being a TKO loss to Sergei Pavlovich.
