Chris Weidman retains UFC Middleweight title via TKO in the second round

|

One of the most anticipated rematches in recent history was the main event at UFC 168. Chris Weidman defended his title for the first time since defeating Anderson Silva in their last fight. Last time around, Silva was criticized heavily for his theatrics before taking the knockout loss in the second round. He left himself wide open and it seemed like a matter of time before Weidman caught him. Well, it was, and Silva took the first loss of his career since beating Rich Franklin for the UFC middleweight title.

This time around, the 10-0 Weidman is more confident and ready to beat Silva again. The biggest question heading into this fight was how serious is Anderson Silva. If he goes in doing the same thing, the outcome will likely be the same too.

Bruce Buffer did a fantastic job of introducing the fighters and the start of this fight was absolutely heart-stopping. Hearing DMX for likely the last time was a personal experience I will never forget.

In the first round, Weidman was able to get an early takedown and kept Silva against the fence. After scoring a dazing blow in Silva’s clinch, Weidman proceeded to take Silva down and punch him several times in the face, but referee Herb Dean let it play out. Silva was able to recover but was on his back for most of the round. He took several punches to the face but kept his cool and maintained his solid ground defense, even drawing blood from Weidman’s nose.

The second round proved to be a very hard round to watch. After looking a lot better than the first fight, Anderson Silva took one of the most devastating injuries ever witnessed in the octagon. When throwing a leg kick, Weidman checked it well, which lead to Silva snapping his shin bone, at least by the looks of it. There will be more details on his medical condition later tonight or tomorrow.

This is a very devastating night for MMA fans, and we at MMASucka wish Anderson Silva all the best and a speedy recovery.
