We’re at the second-to-last UFC event of 2016, and UFC on FOX 22 is full of young guns. From Paige Van Zant and Michelle Waterson in the main event, to Sage Northcutt and Irene Aldana on down, this card is a spotlight for potential stars. Some of these chosen fighters, however, are lacking something. That something is a walkout song that readily and immediately identifies who they are to the crowd. As MMASucka.com’s resident board-certified musicologist, this is where I come in. I intervene, and do so publicly to provide you, the fans, with more entertainment.
Michelle Waterson
What she last walked out to: “Centuries” – Fall Out Boy
What she should walk out to next: “Karate” – Babymetal
“The Karate Hottie” Michelle Waterson does not make this list due to a bad walkout. While I’m no Fall Out Boy fan, “Centuries” is actually good as an entrance song. However, there is something more fitting of her personal brand out there, and that comes from Japan’s Babymetal. The J-pop/metal act’s “Karate” almost seems too obvious of a choice for Waterson, based on her nickname. Check it out below.
Sage Northcutt
What he walked out to last: “Awesome God” – R Swift
What he should walk out to next: “Hot Blooded” – Foreigner
Genetic lottery winner Sage Northcutt has not endeared himself to a great number of MMA fans. From his privileged background to seeming lack of self-awareness about the advantages stemming from the circumstances of his birth, he has rubbed many the wrong way. While you can’t really fault him for the reasons listed, one thing you can legitimately give “Super” Sage crap about is jacking Benson Henderson’s signature walkout song. While walking out to R Swift’s “Awesome God” isn’t quite a crime on par walking out to “Sandstorm” by DaRaude (AKA Wanderlei Silva’s walkout), it’s still egregious. So, what’s a song better suited to young Mr. Northcutt that isn’t being used by someone else? It’s something older than he is! The song that Sage should be walking out to is Foreigner’s “Hot Blooded.” Listen below and tell me I’m wrong.
