MMASucka hung out with Jay Perrin at Boston Sityodtong ahead of his bantamweight title challenge at Cage Titans 40.
Jay Perrin talks Cage Titans 40 title fight
Perrin takes on Cage Titans bantamweight champion Johnny Campbell at the promotions 40th event. Campbell and Perrin hold a bit of history between them. It is one of the reasons the matchup has titillated New England MMA fans. Another, the growing tension surrounding the two.
Rising Tension
A conflict between Campbell and Perrin came to light at Cage Titans 37 in January. Following a dominant performance from Perrin at the event, Campbell was brought into the cage along with promotion owner and match-maker, Mike Polvere. After a few words on his winning performance, Polvere eluded to a title challenge for Perrin and handed him the microphone. The title challenger spoke about this moment and the confusion which followed it.
Although the theatrics happened in January, the title fight was not set for next following Cage Titans event (Cage Titans 38). Instead, Campbell took on Seth Basler in a bantamweight non-title fight while Perrin faced Shawn Rall. Both competitors left Plymouth Memorial Hall that night with submission victories. Campbell earned him in the opening round, Perrin finished his opponent in the second.
Cage Titans Bantamweight Contender
Overall, the Sityodtong fighter holds a record of 6-3. In his nine professional fights, he finished 5 of his 6 victories. Three came by way of submission, the remaining two were KO/TKO stoppages. Under the Cage Titans banner, the challenger is undefeated in two fights, both submission victories.
Earning the belt holds a great significance in the mind of Perrin. Its meaning would be immeasurable to Jay Perrin in many facets of his life. Professional, he believes a belt only furthers his young and budding career. Personally, it fulfills an empty place in his ego by being the first title of his MMA career.
