247 Fighting Championships finally have their main event for their biggest event to date, Brawl in the Burgh 2. And it’s a great one. Pittsburgh MMA legend and hometown favorite Mark Cherico will face Joey Munoz of Nebraska, 247 promoter Ryan Middleton told MMASucka. The fight will take place at a catchweight of 160 pounds and will be a three round fight.

Brawl in the Burgh 2 Main Event Set

Mark “The Pride of Bloomfield” Cherico

Earlier last week, it was reported that Mark Cherico would be in the main event of this fight card. The hometown favorite last appeared in the cage in 2017, when he was defeated in season one of Dana White’s Contender Series. Cherico’s career record currently sits at 11-2. His only other loss came against UFC bantamweight Brian Kelleher way back in 2014. Following the two year layoff, Cherico is ready to get back into action and prove that he belongs at the top of the MMA ranks. The 33 year old fighter trains out of The Mat Factory and The Academy, which was previously owned by Cherico himself and is now owned and operated by UFC newcomer Khama Worthy.

Joey Munoz

Joey Munoz will be remembered by 247 FC fans, as he headlined the promotion’s first ever event against Worthy. At Steeltown Throwdown, Munoz was defeated by Worthy in the main event via unanimous decision. Since then, Munoz was defeated in the main event of Dynasty Combat Sports 52 back in May. He enters this fight with Cherico with a career record of 7-5. One thing that is very obvious to anyone who has seen Munoz fight is his toughness. In that fight with Worthy, Munoz took his best shots, including a flush headkick in the first round. Munoz didn’t go down at all in the fight. Worthy’s next two fights would end in knockouts, including his UFC debut. Joey Munoz can absolutely take a shot. Another interesting dynamic in the fight could be a potential size advantage for Munoz, as Cherico has previously fought at featherweight while Munoz’s last fight was at 170.
