UFC Vancouver produced a star. That man is none other than Tristan Connelly.
The 33-year-old got his Octagon shot on five days notice. The natural lightweight signed on the dotted line to fight at welterweight and was a huge underdog against Michel Pereira. In fact, he was the biggest underdog on the fight card.

Pereira missed weight, he showboated his way to the cage and threw some flashy capoeira style strikes early in the UFC Vancouver fight.

It didn’t take long for Connelly to realize he could force Pereira into a false positive. Midway through the first round the Brazilian looked gassed and the Checkmat Vancouver head coach turned up the pace. In the end, Connelly took home the judges nod, had an outstanding post-fight speech and made himself an instant star. After all that, Connelly also walked away with $100k for “Fight of the Night” honors.
