At Submission Underground 10, Craig Jones and Gordon Ryan finished their respective opponents.
Jones defeated Gilbert Burns with an early heel hook. Immediately following his match, Jones spoke with SUG founder Chael Sonnen and stated he would love to compete in a tag team match next. When asked who he would like to be his partner, he stated that he would try to ‘twist’ Gordon Ryan’s arm.
After that Jones and Ryan tag team match was announced, Sonnen announced that he would pay $25,000 to any tag team that would be willing to compete against arguably the two most dominant grapplers on the planet.
Craig Jones and Gordon Ryan to be tag partners at SUG 11?
Jones finished Burns at SUG 10 and prior to that had a dominant performance, beating Fredson Paixao at Quintet Ultra. Prior to that he finished Adam Wardzinski at GrappleFest 7 and had a dominant run at ADCC, but lost to Matheus Diniz by points in the finals.
“The King” defeated Gabriel Gonzaga in the main event at SUG 10 by heel hook. Ryan also competed at Quintet Ultra, where he defeated Aleksei Oleinik by kneebar. Prior to that he beat Bo Nickal at Third Coast III by triangle. His 2019 ADCC run was very impressive, winning his division against Vinicius Trator and the absolute division against Marcus Almeida.
After his match with Gonzaga, Sonnen asked Ryan if he was interested in the tag team match-up. “These tag-team matches have been picking up some steam. There is nobody better to do it with than Craig.”
Submission Underground 11 will go down on February 23 from the Roseland Theatre in Portland, Oregon. The event will air live on UFC Fight Pass.
