MMASucka’s UFC 250 Staff Picks

|

The UFC’s fifth pay-per-view event of 2020 is hours away for our MMASucka staff picks. Later tonight, June 6 will see UFC 250 take place from the newly configured UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada. The PPV will begin at 10:00pm ET (7:00pm PT).

The Fights

The women’s featherweight championship is on the line between current title holder Amanda Nunes and challenger Felicia Spencer. The dominant reign of Nunes has continued on since March of 2015 having totalled ten victories with six in the first round. After five defenses of the 125-pound strap, she will look to be the first-ever UFC fighter to defend her second belt; this, at 135 pounds. With wins over the likes of Valentina Shevchenko, Cris Cyborg, Holly Holm, and Ronda Rousey, Nunes hopes to continue her legacy as the arguable greatest female mixed martial artist of all-time. Her opponent, Spencer, began her career with seven straight victories and winning of Invicta’s featherweight championship. Her stretch would come to a stop last July, suffering a lone professional defeat to the aforementioned Cyborg. After rebounding with a knockout in February, Spencer now aims to capture the biggest title and win of her life.

Two important bantamweight fights also make up part of the main card. The first comes in the co-main event as veteran Raphael Assuncao looks to snap a two-fight skid against the three-fight skid of former divisional champion Cody Garbrandt. The other fight comes between Aljamain Sterling and Cory Sandhagen; Sterling looking to add to his impressive four fight-winning stretch and Sandhagen hoping for a sixth-straight in the UFC.

Staff Picks

Throughout the year, staff picks will be composed of five different MMA promotions. UFCBellatorONE, and RIZIN all appeared for the 2019 season and will make returns. The newest addition for the 2020 year will see the PFL including their regular season, playoffs, and championship card. A special staff picks bonus will be introduced and discussed regarding PFL’s playoff format as time gets closer.

Main cards will makeup both UFC and Bellator picks, while the biggest fights to make up ONE, RIZIN, and PFL events will be used. The WINNER of staff picks will have a choice between receiving a championship belt from ProAmBelts or a championship chain from Championship Chains. The 2019 winner was awarded to Michael DeSantis, compiling a record of 321-178. Second-place Connor Deitrich collected a close score of 319-180 with third-place Ed Gallo not far behind totaling at 312-183.
