A bantamweight tussle has been added to the September 5 UFC event, as Cole Smith takes on Hunter Azure.
The match was revealed by MMA DNA’s Marcel Dorff this Friday afternoon.
Cole Smith vs. Hunter Azure will square off on September 5
Smith (7-1) was signed to the UFC in early 2019 and won his debut against fellow Canadian Mitch Gagnon. The former Battlefield Fight League bantamweight kingpin fought Miles Johns in his sophomore bout and lost a split-decision in front of his hometown crowd in British Columbia. Smith’s stablemate, Jamey-Lyn Horth will face Chelsea Hackett at the October 6 Contender Series event.
Azure (8-1) made his way to the UFC via Dana White’s Contender Series, as he won a decision against Chris Ocon. He followed that victory up with a decision win against Brad Katona at UFC on ESPN+ 16. Most recently the 28-year-old lost via round 2 TKO to Brian Kelleher in May of this year.
The September 5 event will be held at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. The main event is expected to be a heavyweight battle between Alistair Overeem and Augusto Sakai.
