Former welterweight champion, Robbie Lawler will be stepping to face Neil Magny later this month according to multiple reports. Neil Magny was scheduled to face off with Geoff Neal but Neal withdrew from the bout.

Geoff Neal medical emergency

Geoff Neal faced an unknown medical condition that he said nearly cost him his life. He spent a week in an ICU hooked to machines in a life or death battle. It’s scary to say the very least. While in the hospital he was on dialysis and had a septic infection. His white blood count was nearly double normal, indicating he was fighting an infection. After seven days in the ICU is now home resting in Dallas.

In steps Robbie Lawler

As far as the fight goes, Robbie Lawler has stepped in to take his place. Robbie Lawler is a former champion but has fallen on hard times of late. He’s lost three fights in a row, dropping bouts to Rafael Dos Anjos, Ben Askren, and Colby Covington.

Lawler will be looking to get back to the winning ways but faces a stiff challenge in Neil Magny. Neil Magny has won four of five, with his lone loss coming at the hands of Santiago Ponzinibbio during that stretch. His wrestling has been very solid during that run.

This will be an interesting fight, and Robbie will be looking to get the stoppage standing. Magny is very durable and his wrestling is really strong. Nobody can question the durability and chin on Lawler either, so this should be a compelling fight.

This event is scheduled for August 29 and the main event features Anthony Smith taking on Aleksandar Rakić. Smith is coming off of a loss to Glover Teixeira and Rakic’s last Octagon appearance resulted in a loss to Volkan Oezdemir.  The event is scheduled to air on ESPN+ live from the UFC Apex Center in Las Vegas, NV.
