UFC 258 Main Event
It’s third time lucky at UFC 258. Having been scheduled for July and December previously, the UFC 258 main event sees two former teammates square off for the welterweight strap. COVID-19 and injuries have played havoc with this fight previously, so let’s hope it goes ahead this time.
Since working and training together, Usman has switched camps to work with Trevor Wittman. Wittman is without a doubt one of the best coaches out there and will have certainly added facets to Usman’s game that Burns won’t have seen before. Usman looked his usual dominant self in his first fight working with Wittman. At UFC 251, Usman defeated late notice challenger, Jorge Masvidal 50–45, 50–45 and 49–46 to regain his belt. This win extended his undefeated run to a phenomenal 16 fights.
Gilbert Burns has been on a tear since moving up to welterweight. Returning to 170lbs in 2019, Burns has gone 4-0, notching two performance of the night bonuses. Most recently and most impressively was his victory against Tyron Woodley. Gaining the unanimous decision victory, 50–45, 50–44 and 50–44, Burns proved his a big, big problem at 170lbs.
