Submission Underground returns tonight for the first time in nearly two months with Submission Underground 27. The headliner brings back champion Mason Fowler to defend his belt for the eighth time against Gabriel Checco. The originally scheduled challenger, Kyle Boehm, earned his shot at Fowler after winning the tournament at Submission Underground 24. He was forced to pull out of this match with a broken foot, but will be next in line for today’s winner. Checco steps in on the back of two straight wins with SUG, including his most recent win being a 48-second submission over UFC light heavyweight Danilo Marques at Submission Underground 26.

The co-main event pits Bellator veteran and one-half of the former Submission Underground Tag Team Championship team Cris Lencioni against Zack Schneider, a Submission Underground and Combat Jiu-Jitsu Worlds competitor who is on a two-fight winning streak. This bout came together on very short notice after the originally scheduled co-main event between Ian Butler and Andy Varela fell through due to issues on both fighters’ ends.

A number of familiar names to Submission Underground fans litter the rest of the card as well, including fan-favorite Canadian Micah Brakefield taking on Aaron Tiegs, who is 6-0 under the SUG banner.

Stay tuned to MMA Sucka for up-to-date results on Submission Underground 27, happening live on UFC Fight Pass tonight at 6pm ET/3pm PT.
