Saulo Ribeiro is your next inductee into ADCC Hall of Fame. Two times ADCC champion is probably best known as an author of a renowned book Jiu-Jitsu Univesity, which is considered one of the best written BJJ instructional.

A black belt in both Judo and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Royler Gracie, Ribeiro debuted in ADCC competition circuit back in 1999, when he made his way to 99 kg division finals, only to lose to Jeff Monson. He returned a year later and grabbed his first ADCC hold in 88kg weight class, by defeating Ricardo Liborio. In 2001 he returned as a defending champion and yet again made his way to the finals, where he was bested by Sanae Kikuta. He also tested himself in an Absolute division but lost to Ricardo Arona in the quarter-finals. Two years later he once again successfully competed in 88kg weight class and defeated Ronaldo Souza in the finals. He also won a rematch with Monson in the Absolute division but lost in the quarter-finals to Dean Lister. Ribeiro’s last tenure in this weight class took place in 2005, where he lost to Damian Maia in the semi-finals and took 3rd by defeating Dennis Hallman.

In 2007 he switched to 77kg division but lost to Mike Fowler in the quarter-finals. His last tenure on ADCC mat took place in 2009, where he competed in over 99kg weight-class. He made his way to the semi-finals, where he lost to Fabricio Werdum and then lost 3rd place bout to the aforementioned Monson.

Ribeiro also found success outside the ADCC competition. He’s a two-division BJJ Pan American champion, No-Gi World Champion, and 5 times BJJ World Champion in four different weight classes. He also has a 2 – 1 professional MMA record with both of his wins coming by the way of submission.
