It was challenging for MMA fans to know where to look on Saturday night. Although UFC 218 didn’t have a big name attached to it, it was nevertheless a great event. Two of the greatest featherweights in history clashed for the second time this year when champion Max Holloway defended his title against Jose Aldo, who had previously held the title until Holloway knocked him out in June. Let’s look at some of the most notable highlights from this event.

The Main Card Highlights

Holloway vs Aldo

It seems like Max Holloway found some sort of cheat code. That seems to be what has happened based on the manner in which he controls that superb ex-champ. Aldo was eliminated once more by the champion in the third round. Although he is still young, his claim has been established by two straight victories over the previous GOAT and a 12-fight winning run that included wins over fighters like Jeremy Stephens, Cub Swanson, and Ricardo Lamas.

Ngannou vs Overeem

Francis Ngannou was famous before the fight, but the way he defeated Overeem made him a true star. The vicious left-shovel-hook knockout of Overeem in the co-main event marked the Cameroonian-French fighter’s career-defining victory. His tragic life experience brought him to Las Vegas and MMA triumph. It took him just 102 seconds to win. He now has a chance to face UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic as a result. Ngannou, 31, is 6-0 in the UFC and 11-1 overall. He is strong, intelligent, and skilled. He also has a kind demeanor and seems to get along well with others.

Alvares vs Gaethje

Gaethje suffered his first professional defeat at the hands of the former UFC lightweight champion, but only after he had to navigate a dangerously violent minefield. Gaethje launched early and frequently with heavy leg kicks that finally left Alvarez with a limp. Both guys put a hell of a fight, but only one was victorious. We’ll see how Gaethje will be able to bounce back in the future.

Medeiros vs Oliveira

Each man punched the other to the ground but only one of them was left laying. The strength of each man’s chin served as their only line of defense, which was sufficient for a time. As they traded punches, kicks, and knees, it became clear to viewers that a fight was about to break out. In the third, Oliveira suddenly covered up next to the fence as if he had received a terrible injury. Under Medeiros’ onslaught, he was knocked to the ground, and the fight quickly ended.
