WBA (Super) light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol will be defending his title for the fifth time against another Mexican powerhouse in Gilberto Ramirez this Saturday in Abu Dhabi live from the Etihad Arena on DAZN.

Dmitry Bivol, 31, is an undefeated 20-0 (11 KO) champion who is at the highest of recognition for his dominant performance against Pound-For-Pound star, and undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez back in May. Now he looks to take the zero off ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez’s record.

The Russian champion fought for the WBA interim title in just his ninth fight as a professional against Robert Berridge in February 2017, where Bivol won by a fourth-round TKO. Bivol was soon promoted to WBA “regular” champion after defeating Cedric Agnew that same year. He then was promoted to “Super” champion after five successful title defences in 2019.

Meanwhile, Gilberto Ramirez (44-0, 30 KO) has been seeking a title shot from Bivol for the better part of two years. Now presented with the opportunity to challenge for a light heavyweight title to become a two-division champion.

Ramirez defeated Arthur Abraham via unanimous decision in April 2016 to become the WBO super middleweight champion and also went on to have five successful defences before vacating and moving up to 175 lbs.

Since moving up from 168 lbs to 175 lbs, Ramirez has scored knockouts against Tommy Karpency and Alfonso Lopez. He has also signed a multi-fight deal with Golden Boy Promotions in February of last year. He also has scored five straight knockouts against the likes of Dominic Boesel, Yunieski González, and Sullivan Barrera.

As Saturday looms closer, Bivol is the undefeated defending champion looking to build off his historical upset to defeat Ramirez who will use his superior size and power to gain a second divisional title and maintain his own undefeated record.
