The theme of ONE on Prime Video 4: Abbasov vs. Lee will be the chase for double gold. ONE Lightweight World Champion Christian Lee will move up to challenge Kiamrian Abbasov for the welterweight strap in the main event. However, Joseph Lasiri will also step up in weight when he goes to flyweight to try to continue his upsetting ways against Rodtang Jitmuangnon for the ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Championship.
“The Hurricane” has already stunned the martial arts world once in 2022 with his shocking TKO win over Prajanchai PK.Saenchai. It was a feel-good story for the Italian-Moroccan, who lost his first four matches in ONE. But Lasiri never doubted his own abilities and always pushed himself. It is the very thing that has driven him to challenge “The Iron Man” on Friday, November 18.
In an interview with ONE Championship, “The Hurricane” noted how the title victory for the ONE Strawweight Muay Thai World Title allowed him to share the belt with everyone who has been a part of the journey. He will look to continue to inspire those around him with his next matchup against the Thai superstar. Lasiri has only wanted to challenge himself against the best, and that’s what he will get inside the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
“When I face off with Rodtang, I will be proud of myself, for sure. And what I’m really looking forward to is going there to do my job and making it an opportunity to be an inspiration for my team, my family, and the people around me,” said Lasiri.
The Italian-Moroccan put together one of the year’s best performances against Prajanchai. He does not anticipate going away from his aggressive style against Rodtang. What brought Lasiri to the top of the mountain is what he still plans to utilize against one of the planet’s most feared and dangerous strikers.
“What is more comfortable? Fighting Rodtang [when he is moving] forward or fighting Rodtang technically? To me, I think it’s more comfortable to fight Rodtang if [he is going] forward. So, the game plan is to make Rodtang angry, and then he will come to me,” said the ONE Strawweight Muay Thai World Champion,
Lasiri still plans to utilize his movement and avoid too many firefights with the Thai sensation. He understands it will be a grueling battle if he intends to walk out with the gold. But Lasiri does not just want to win the match. “The Hurricane” wants to replicate his prior performance and make Rodtang quit.
“My beautiful dream is when I fight Rodtang, it will be like Prajanchai. He goes back in the corner and he doesn’t come back to do the next round. This is my best dream, and I have seen it many times. That will be the best win for me,” said Lasiri.
Lasiri’s quest for double gold will air live and free to U.S. and Canadian Amazon Prime subscribers. The action begins at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on Friday, November 18, from the Singapore Indoor Stadium. Tickets for the event are available here.
