Garrett Armfield made his second walk to the Octagon this past weekend when he took on Japan’s Toshiomi Kazama at UFC Singapore. Armfield made a massive statement when he finished the “Silent Finisher” before the first round bell, securing his first ever UFC victory.

“I had something to prove. I hadn’t fought in over a year and, uhm, I was coming off of a loss as well—so, I felt, like, to really get my career direction and take a good step forward, I had to go out there and put on a performance and, like, be something that people will remember.” Armfield told MMASucka.
The Kill Cliff FC fighter made his short notice debut to the UFC last year in a losing effort to David Onama. The 26-year-old bantamweight would rumble back into the win column this past Saturday with a devastating first round finish over Toshiomi Kazama.
“I know I was catching him with the jab a lot, uhm, a couple times actually, and had him hurt. I and knew I just needed one big shot to put him away. Instead of, kind of, swarming him and, kind of, over extending myself and leaving myself open for takedowns, I, kind of, decided to play it a little more cool and let him come to me. . .and uh, the right hand was there.. .You can never go wrong with, just like, a simple, basic 1-2. . .He kept kicking and not setting it up. And, so, he would close the distance that way. And as he did it, his hands dropped. So, I just kind of timed him as he came in and then threw the right hand.”

Late in the first round, Armfield would finish the fight after landing a stunning right straight, dropping Kazama and forcing the referee to stop the contest.
Looking to the Future
With momentum on his side, Armfield is eager to prove his ability inside of the Octagon.
“Of course, I see myself being a champion one day, but that has a lot of pieces falling into place before I can, ya know, talk about title aspirations. But that’s always my end game—to be a title holder. But where I go from here, I spoke to my management. We wanna get one more fight in before the end of the year. And kind of just, get myself ready to really take over the scene in 2024. So, finish the year with another win, so I’ll be 2-0 in 2023. And then really get on the ball in 2024 and crack the top-15 at the end of 2024. If everything goes to plan and I can get these good fights and put on good performances.”
