The King, Gordon Ryan returned to the mats for the first time in 2023 on Sunday, October 1 and he did it in clinical fashion.

Following the dominant performance of Patrick Gaudio, it was announced that Ryan would take on former foe Lucas Barbosa on the November 30 Who’s Number One card.

The event will air live on FloGrappling.com.

At Who’s Number One Night of Champions, Ryan took on Gaudio in the evening’s main event. It was his first time competing since his ADCC run in 2022.

The match began with some heavy collar ties. After a slick takedown, “The King” put on the top pressure. He dominated from every top position. Leg pummeling, top half guard, mount with double under hooks and more. The beginning of the end happened when he took the back and isolated Gaudio’s arm. He was able to snap the grip and extend Gaudio’s arm to force the tap.

Of course, Ryan’s prediction was an armbar and this comes as no surprise, due to the fact that he just dropped Systematically Attacking the Armbar on BJJFanatics.com.

Ryan has competed against Barbosa on two different occasions. At the 2019 ADCC tournament, The King defeated Hulk 3-0 in the semi-finals. And at Fight to Win 30 in 2017, Gordon earned a referee decision against Lucas.

Ryan will look to earn his first submission victory against Barbosa in a 30-minute submission-only match-up on November 30.

Barbosa has competed a ton in 2023. All IBJJF tournaments, Worlds, as well as Jiu-Jitsu Con, Gi and No-Gi. Most recently Barbosa lost to Pedro Rocha via guillotine at Jiu-Jitsu Con No Gi at the end of August.

No other matches have been announced for the upcoming WNO card.
